Knitting supplies can tend to get a bit out of hand for most knitters, but when you start a knitting business, it's bound to get even worse! Working from home means that you'll need to keep all your knitting supplies as organized as possible.
The first thing you need to do is organize your yarn, since it's the bulkiest of all the knitting supplies you'll need to deal with. Whether you use clear plastic totes (so you can see what's in them!), wire-mesh-type 'square' containers, book shelves or decorative wicker baskets, you'll have a great time sorting out your yarn knitting supplies. Will you store your yarn by color, fiber content, potential project, or...?
The next thing you'll want to do is organize your needles. Since there are three kinds -- straight needles, circular needles and double-pointed needles, it's a good idea to store them 'separately, yet together.' :) Some ideas for needle knitting supplies storage include celery-keepers or other lidded containers, decorative vases or crock-pots, 3-ring binder plastic sleeves, wicker baskets, or cloth carry cases with slots in them. Whatever you choose, your knitting supplies are slowly getting organized!
Finally, you want to organize all the rest of your knitting supplies -- patterns, stitch holders, bobbins, measuring tape, and whatever other knitting supplies you have. It's another personal preference choice, but it's a good idea to keep all of these knitting supplies in one place, generally. Will you use wicker baskets, plastic totes, or....?
Another way to organize your knitting supplies is to have an inventory notebook of 'all of the above.' :) You can then also use that notebook to keep track of the information about individual projects -- the yarn you used (and how much of it), the pattern, the time it took you to complete it, and any other comments about the project.
Once all your knitting supplies are organized, you'll find you'll work 'smarter' and faster - and that will result in a more profitable knitting business for you!
